Travelling Boxes

A collaborative project undertaken at the Banff Arts Centre as part of the MAIV residency. Each box has a theme and began as bare ceramic forms within a wooden box with a single drawing completed by myself. A box was given to a participant, who travelled with the box outside their studio and responding to the box and my drawing, drew and wrote on the ceramic form or added items to the box before returning it. Based on their response I completed another drawing and then gave it to another participant who layered more drawing and/or writing over the first. This process was repeated up to five times after which the ceramic forms were fired, fusing together the layers of marks by the different participants.
